  A computer and a three-hole punch don't make you a writer... September 21, 2006 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
Three-ring binder (the cheap kind), some 80 single-sided, laser-printed pages (no duplexer on your $50 printer?) of browser printouts from the DOE website, and a barely readable DVD-R (no-name) with same materials poorly converted to PDF. Total time to collect materials and prepare for print - 120 minutes, at most.
This is most certainly not a book, and, as it is, it would hardly get a passing grade as a middle-school research project. Sadly, in this great country of ours that places increasingly more importance on intellectual property than intellectual ability, this has become far too common. It looks like something compiled by a bored, middle-aged housewife in breaks between Soaps. I produce my own biofuels for use in our vehicles and farm equipment and I am about to venture into full-scale manufacture for the public market. This book will not help me in my efforts, and it is being RETURNED tomorrow. One last note to the gifted author/compiler: When publishing for the renewable energy market, how about putting the slightest effort into using renewable methods and materials? Bleached paper, single sided printing in large font, and a nasty plastic binder don't make me feel right. Profit was the only motivator for releasing this publication; luckily, I doubt any was actually gained. How very American...
Good overview and compilation of current programs & technology April 24, 2006 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
It begins w/ basic definitions of "biofuels", "biomass", etc., then describes in greater detail the theory behind biodiesel, bioethanol, biopower, bioproducts. Lastly launches into a lengthy compilation of various programs throughout the US, everything from small scale gassification, to switchgrass and corn stover applications, cogeneration, biorefineries.
