Great Quiet and Efficient Generator June 10, 2006

I bought this generator to go camping about two months before Hurricane Ivan. It powered my house and a neighbors, for 167 hours straight, stopping only long enough to add fuel. 2.5 gallons lasts 12-13 hours. This generator is so quiet, we had to go out and check on it! At campgrounds, we always get great comments on out quiet little generator. It powers our AC without any issues. At home, I have charged the batteries in my Jeep and my son's car. It is a trickle charge so it doesn't charge right away, but it has never failed. The only negative I have is, it is heavy. At over 160 pounds, it is difficult to transport it but it does come with wheels that makes it easy to roll around.

I'm extremely satisfied with this generator; it is amazingly quiet to run (we keep it secured in the truck bed and the cord reaches the power connection on our Airstream perfectly; the generator hums away and we're virtually unaware that it's running.) No complaints about what turned out to be a substantial wait for delivery - it's reasonable to expect a delay for a new product in high demand, both due to hurricane recovery needs at the time we ordered it and the fact that it's a great unit.

This generator is state of the art. It is built like a good car or personal watercraft if you know what I mean. It looks good on the outside and when you open the service panels you can tell the quality. It is extremely quiet, clean/steady power and has built-in handles and wheels. The old saying "you get what you pay for" is definitely true here. I was buying the cheap $400-600 generators available everywhere and they would last six to twelve months. Buy this one and you won't be wasting your money as I did before I learned an expensive lesson. Most folks know Yamaha has become one of the names you can trust and this generator is no exception. I've even nicknamed mine "R2D2", pretty lame I know. :)

I don't know why some of you insist on reviewing the delivery practices of Amazon.com instead of the product. First I must ask if you remember the hurricane season of 2004 and the blackout up north before that.... It put a serious strain on Jenny suppliers in the entire country.

This is one of the best small Jennys I have ever used, and I have used several. I use it camping in the wilderness and run it for days on end. I used it to power my entire house (except AC) after hurricane Ivan knocked out power for a few days. Every time I go camping someone will stop and ask me about it. It is so quiet it draws attention. It starts and runs like a dream. I have had good luck with several Yamaha products, and this one is great too. I don't understand the other reviewer that had trouble with powering their AC, perhaps their AC has issues, mine powers my 15K BTU AC fine. The fuel economy is good and it will run for 12-14 hours without the AC on and about six with it on. I saw this unit at the RV super Show in Tampa yesterday and it had a show price several hundred higher than Amazon

WE BOUGHT THIS GENERATOR AND FIRST THING WE HOOKED IT UP TO OUR 13,500 BTU AIR CONDITIONER ON OUR TRAILER AND IT WOULD START IT FOR THE PERIOD OF THE BOOST THEN IT WOULD STOP I HAD TALKED TO OUR LOCAL R/V STORE GUY AND HE SAID HE WANTED TO SEE IF IT WOULD PUSH AN A/C UNIT SO HE CAME TO MY HOUSE THE DAY I GOT IT AND WE TRIED EVERYTHING AND IT WOULDNT WORK. WE WERE VERY DISAPPOINTED THEN MY WIFE AND I WERE TESTING IT TO SEE HOW MUCH IT WOULD PUSH IN OUR TRAILER AND TURNED THE A/C ON AGAIN MANUALLY AND IT WORKED. I HAVE NO IDEA WHY IT DID NOT WORK THE FIRST TIME, MAYBE IT NEEDS TO BE RAN FOR A WHILE OR SOMETHING BUT IT IS OBVIOUSLY RIGHT ON THE EDGE OF BEING ABLE TO RUN OUR A/C. IT STILL WONT START IT ON AUTO BUT IF I JUST TURN THE A/C ON MANUALLY IT WILL WORK. WE HAVEN'T HAD THE NEED TO HAVE THE A/C ON FOR AN EXTENDED TIME YET. MY LOCAL R/V GUY SAID THAT THE HIGHER THE ELEVATION THE LESS POWER A GENERATOR WILL PRODUCE(OR MAYBE THE MORE IT TAKES TO RUN THINGS). WE LIVE IN UTAH AT A HIGH ELEVATION SO THAT MAY HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH IT. WE TOOK IT CAMPING AND IT IS VERY QUIET AND IT STARTS GREAT BUT ONE OTHER THING WE FOUND IS THE BATTERY CHARGING FEATURE IS WORTHLESS. WE HAD A BATTERY CONNECTED TO IT ALL DAY LONG(8AM-10PM) AND IT DIDNT CHARGE IT AT ALL. I MAY BE DOING SOMETHING WRONG BUT IT SEEMS PRETTY STRAIGHT FORWARD THAT YOU PLUG IT IN AND CONNECT THE CABLES TO THE TERMINALS ON THE BATTERY. OVERALL IT HAS NOT LIVED UP TO OUR EXPECTATIONS.
